This piece is made from thermoplastic resin and has been hand decorated with a red and yellow rim. The designer of this cooperation between NPM and Alessi is Mr. Stefano GIovannoni, who was born in Florence in 1954. He is at the same time an industrial designer, architectural designer, and interior designer, and is a genius in design. His works are humorous, naïve, and deeply effected by orthodox cartoons. Giovannoni earned the title of the best designer of "Super&Popular" in 2000, his classic design for Alessi includes "Magic Bunny, toothpick holder", "Bunny & Carrot, kitchen roll holder", and "Pino, funnel", etc. The spirit of the "Orientales" serious is "to see eastern stories from the western point of view," and to obtain materials from a wider range of the NPM collections, not limiting to a one-to-one correspondence between a design and a relic, thus having a deeper conception of design than that of the first serious "when the east meets the west."

Stefano Giovannoni visited NPM for several times, and was deeply touched by the beauty of the NPM collections. In this project he made a lot of effort to study the content of eastern aesthetic and the long and excellent craftsmanship traditions. Furthermore, he also paid attention to the differences between eastern and western values; through the analysis of words and images, he selected various decorative features of unique style from the western point of view, and created this serious, which is a new interpretation about the natural world and the kingdom of animals. As those of the first series, functions of the products from this second serious are mainly for ordinary dinning tables. Giovannoni skillfully infused his familiar humor and fairy tales styles, hence overthrowing the traditional eastern conceptions, into the products. For example, "Paradise Bird" salt/pepper, "Lotus" small bowl, "Fruit Sugar Bowl", "Lily Pond" sushi set, "Banana Boys" set of 3 caps, "Secret Fish" all-purpose box, and so on, are all lively product of this new serious, combining both fantasies and amusement.
